Take the Guesswork out of Key Performance Measurement
The incorrect selection and implementation of poorly developed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) is, after poor management, the root of stunted business performance and growth. Working with the wrong or poorly developed KPIs is the same as blindly choosing a packet of pills from the drug store to fix a medical problem that you think you may have. While some of the pills might work by chance, there is a greater chance that you will cause more damage to your health in the long term.
The majority of businesses and departments use the wrong KPIs and as such, waste valuable resources. The problem is that most small business owners and managers don’t know how to choose the right KPIs for their departments and persons at the correct level in order to attain the right outcomes.
We have consulted companies where the executives were monitoring KPIs that should have been managed at a shop-floor level, and at the same time, a shop floor operator was being measured on overhead variance to budget for his department – something which he had no control over.
Using our list of KPIs, you will quickly identify the right KPIs for the right person or situation, and not waste time on measuring aspects that don’t lead to improvements in the overall business performance.
Our Managing Director is a chartered accountant and certified KPI professional with 20 years of experience in delivering business intelligence and corporate performance management solutions. He has worked in numerous industries and across all functions in many businesses.
This experience led to the discovery that at all levels of organisations, 80% of organisations measure the same or very similar things. With this knowledge, we created a list of KPIs, which has been classified according to Strategic Objective, Process, Department and Role, so that anyone can easily access a list of relevant KPIs for a particular situation or business objective.
Should you not be able to identify a specific role in the list, you should be able to find a similar role or create a new role using the combination of a few roles. The list is particularly suitable for sales and any processes that are generic. The KPIs will cover 80% of your requirements, so you will only have to create the 20% of specific roles that make your business unique.
Our list of KPI’s cover the following areas:
- Human Resources
- Project Management
- Supply Chain (including Procurement & Logistics)
- Operations (Manufacturing)
- Customer Service
- Risk & Compliance
- Technical & Maintenance
If you need KPIs for yourself or your staff and you don’t know where to start, fast-track the process of identifying the right KPIs and also make sure that you’re not using a meaningless set of KPIs to measure someone or a team.
